How to Prepare Musical Instruments for Shipping 

At Breakwells, we have developed a unique approach to handling the shipment of high-value goods to ensure your items are safe in transit. However, there are some things that you can do to prepare your instrument for its journey and help get it delivered undamaged.  

• Use a brand-new box to ensure maximum durability
• Use additional protective fillers such as bubble wrap, foam padding or packaging chips
• Don’t leave space between the instrument and the box. The more movement possible, the higher the chance of breakage
• Avoid air-filled packaging as it may pop and leave your instruments vulnerable to damage 
• For added protection, place the instrument in its protective case and then in a box 

Guitar Shipping Tips

We’ve been offering guitar transport services since the 1960s, so we know that when shipping guitars, it’s crucial that the guitar strings are loosened and detuned before the instrument is shipped. This is done to prevent them from snapping while in transit. Don’t forget to place the guitar in its carrying case before putting it in the parcel box. This may add a bit to the weight of the shipment but it’s the best way to keep your precious guitar safe. 

Piano Shipping Tips

Pianos are large, heavy, high-value and fragile at the same time which makes piano shipping a tricky business. To prepare a piano for delivery, you must ensure that the pedals, keys and soundboard are all completely covered and protected using packing blankets and cardboard crating. In addition to that, the lids and legs of the piano must be removed and wrapped separately to avoid damage.
